D1: Analyse how post production techniques and processes create meaning in the media product to meet the client brief

This is the main image I used for my magazine. I chose this main image as I believed that it was quite fitting to the grime scene and with the background it would have been easy to edit if I decided I wanted to add something to the background. As well as this colours are very fitted to the grime scene and looks good. I felt that this main image had created meaning to the grime scene as the background is good to edit as it is a blank wall and it looks like it meets the grime scene and the brick wall in the background looks like it could be in an alley way which creates a grime scene and the audience will be able to relate to it. This meets the client brief as the main image creates the atmosphere of the grime scene and the main artist in the picture is wearing clothes that fit in to the grime scene  and it will create meaning and the readers will be able to relate to it and it is a local grime artist so it will make them want to read it as it is an up and coming genre within the local area.

One tool I used within the post production phase of my magazine was layer effects. I used stroke around all of my cover lines to make them stand out to the reader and the target audience. The reason for using it is because when readers are out in the shop and are looking for a new magazine to read the stroke tool adds more of an effect to the writing that is on the front cover and it will allow the magazine to stand out more and catch the customers eye. It creates meaning for the audience as it is emphasising all the cover lines and the customers will feel like all the cover lines are as important as each other making them want to read more in to the magazine. Here is evidence of me using the stroke tool and the effect it has on the writing that is on the front cover.
This applies to the client brief as because you can see the stroke effect emphasises the fact that it is a grime magazine and it is in North London this applies to the client brief as it is an upcoming music genre in the local area and the stroke effect emphasises that so grime fans in North London will be happy to see there is a new and upcoming magazine for a new and this will make people excited and it will help get the product out there to the audience.

Another tool that I used within the post production phase of the magazine was importing the fonts and implementing it within the front cover of the magazine. The reason for using different bold fonts within the front cover of the magazine is to create a atmosphere of the grime scene and when people see the fonts they will know that it was the grime scene in North London and this will help meet the client brief.

One of the fonts that I decided to use was 'Bad Grunge' I felt that this font was very fitting for the title of the magazine which was 'The sound of north london' and the grime scene as it looked like it was graffiti and it would give readers an indication that it is from the grime scene. The font will reflect the vibrant music scene that is developing rapidly and the font creates a grime scene which is a very up and coming genre within the North London area and having North London in the title will indicate that it is directed at them. Here is an example of me using the font and how it emphasises that the magazine is directed at the people in North London and how it looks like graffiti with the colour and will fit in with the grime scene and the younger generation

Lastly another tool that I used within my front cover were layers. Layers are very important in general as this is all the writing and pictures on the front cover and without them the front cover would simply just not be there. Every layer will create meaning to the consumer as they will be reading them and viewing them and that is what will stand out to the readers and will make them want to buy it. One of the layers within my magazine is my model for the photoshoot who is the main image. His head takes up part of the title of the magazine which indicates and shows that he has the h the dominance within the front cover. This effects the the readers and helps meet the client brief as he is a local North London Grime artist and the client brief has asked for a new North London music magazine with an upcoming genre and grime is very up and coming within the area and he is an upcoming artist. This means that customers will be happy to read about an artist who is from and lives in the local area about their new favourite music and this will create meaning to them. Here is the example of the main image having dominance within my front cover.

One tool I used within my double page spread was importing and using fonts for my quotes from the grime artist. I used a font called Abadi MT condensed extra bold. The bold font emphasises the quote and will allow it to stand out to the reader. The quote in bold will make the reader read it and if they also want to be a grime artist and will give them inspiration. Once I imported the font from dafont I changed the colour to black which relates to the grime scene and it one of the colours that represent it. As well as this the quote is about Stormzy inspiring the artist to grow up and be like him this will be influential for people within the North London area as Stormzy is also from North London.

Another tool that I used was a shape tool, I used this tool to create my columns for the writing for the article. I also filled them in a yellow colour as it represents the vibrant music scene North london. The reason I decided to do this was because because it organised the article well and it allowed it to have a good representation and will look more presentable and organised to the consumers. The connotations of the colour yellow represent happiness and it will make consumers feel good whilst reading it. Here is how I used the shape tool and used it to have the columns for the writing.
When I typed the article I used the type tool which is how I wrote in my columns and fitted it in to it. I wrote in a size 10 font.

I transformed images on my double page spread, I used for the social media links which would show the readers how to be able to find out more information and be able to find the magazine online and get more information about it. To transform the image i held command and t and I was able to reshape the image and fit them in to the top corner of page. It is important to include this as it meets the codes and conventions of a magazine. Here is an example of how I transformed the social media images.

In my double page spread I used the ruler to half my A3 page so I knew where the fold lines would be. Makes the magazine more user friendly and easier to read which is very important for a magazine.

M4: Demonstrate how the exported media product meets the client brief

After finally finishing my front cover and my double page spread I have decided to review how my media product meets the client brief.

The target market we aimed for was grime fans in North London simply for the reason that grime is becoming a big music genre in England but in particular, North London overall it's aimed at young grime fans in North London.

I feel that lots of parts of the magazine met the client brief, for a start, The Sound Of North London will show people who are looking at it that it's a music magazine based on North London, however the name probably could have been more fitting to the grime scene as it's hard to tell from the name that it's a grime magazine but at the same time in the skyline it says 'The best local grime magazine' which does show that the genre is grime. Another part that helped me meet the client brief was that it I advertised for current grime gigs that are happening in North London so fans are up to date on what they can go to and what's currently happening on the scene. Also an interview with an upcoming grime artist from North London is an interesting article to read for people who are aspiring to become musicians themselves and want inspiration and it also gives grime fans in North London and grime fans in general a new artist to listen to and find out some background information about him. I also think that it's good that the magazine uses Facebook, twitter and snapchat as that is what the younger generation use now so it's a good way of using cross media and getting people even from a wider community or not. The logo also symbolises all the counties in North London so when people see it they feel like it's just for them and it will make them want to read it

The brief asked me to make a new music magazine for North London, I successfully did this by identifying what the most popular genre currently is in North London which is grime then producing a magazine for it, my article idea was to interview an upcoming grime star so people would have an insight in to the lifestyle of grime artist and give consumers who want to become musicians inspiration to follow their dreams, also the reason behind the interview was to give consumers a new artist to listen to. I also used my location in the photoshoot in North London. In the magazine I also planned to put in there upcoming grime events in North London so consumers know what's happening on the grime scene and they can see their favourite artists.

P5: A Textual Analysis on my front cover and double page spread

The front cover and double page spread I feel is suitable for the target audience I had originally said that the primary target audience was grime fans who live in North London, I feel that the front cover does relate to the target audience and the secondary audience this is because the main image and side image is of a music artists from North London, the setting of the pictures are also taken in North London and the magazine features other grime music for grime fans in general and not just North London. I think the front cover has both strengths and weaknesses, I feel one of the strengths are the colour scheme all goes together and is fairly simple, however I don't feel like the colour scheme would go under the grime category and might be to bright. I feel another weakness is the font of the front cover, I feel I could have done something more fitting with the grime scene like a graffiti font. I feel a strength of the front cover is that the way it's laid out, I know this since I had done research pre producing of local magazines and grime magazines and mixing them both together to end up with the best outcome possible in terms of layout. I also feel that the double page spread had different strengths and weaknesses, some are similar to the ones for the front cover. A strength of the double page spread is the layout and how it is organised, also the font that says MC Burkey makes is more of a grime style font, another strength is that I've added social media accounts for the magazine, so consumers have different platforms of reading articles and getting updates on the magazine, I also think a strength is that I followed the colour scheme and article is on the model in the main image. Weaknesses are that as there was a lot of writing to put in I didn't have a lot of space to fit it in so the writing is small and hard to read, another weakness is the page numbers are slightly too big and they're out of proportion and not level.

Photoshop techniques Double Page (p5)

These are screenshots to show evidence of post production techniques for my double page spread. I started off with my just my main image, the first thing I did was zoom out the picture and make the model in the left side of the centre of the page so I could fit in the text boxes perfectly next to the image on the other side I was able to put in my cover line. After inserting, placing and editing my main image I inserted text boxes to write my article and put them all in the same size and colour filled them in orange to match the colour scheme of the magazine. In the skyline I included images and accounts for the magazines social media so consumers will be able to follow the magazine online and get articles such as this, I used the shape tool to create text boxes and the crop tall to crop the images of the social media websites, I used the colour fill to fit my text boxes in with the colour scheme.

For my front cover, I can't find the screenshots to show the techniques I used. some techniques I used was the shape tool for the puff and the side images, I've also used the stroke tool so the text was more visible and easier to read
